In various regions of Pashtunkhwa, gatherings were held on Sunday in support of the ‘Pashtun National Jirga’.
The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) states that protests supporting the decisions of the Pashtun National Jirga have taken place in several areas of Pashtunkhwa, with people emphasizing the implementation of the jirga’s demands.
The movement had already announced peaceful uprisings, protests, and gatherings in multiple cities and districts for today, Sunday.
PTM activist Hanif Pashteen said, “From Quetta to Waziristan, Swat, Chaman, and Peshawar, these uprisings were planned to take place in at least 30 locations from morning until evening.”
In videos and images shared on social media, a large number of people can be seen participating in these uprisings in support of the Khyber Jirga.
Previously, on October 13th, during the decision-making of the Pashtun National Jirga in Khyber, a call was made to Pashtuns to come out in support of the jirga on this Sunday.
This jirga has been considered historic due to the number of participants and the decisions made.
PTM leader Manzoor Ahmad Pashteen said that following the successful organization of the Pashtun National Jirga in Khyber, there will now be a focus on implementing the jirga’s demands in every region.
Through social media, he once again reminded the people that alongside the demands for “peace, free movement across the Durand line and its gates, control over their resources, finding missing loved ones, and the release of prisoners,” other issues that have made the lives of Pashtuns difficult were also raised.
These gatherings are taking place at a time when just a few days ago, on October 11th, the general jirga of Lower Pashtuns, named the ‘National Justice’, was convened in Khyber.
In this jirga, the overall situation of Pashtuns was assessed, and in the decision-making process, several significant demands were made, including giving a two-month deadline for the withdrawal of the Pakistani military and armed groups from Pashtun areas.
This jirga, attended by people and representatives of parties from most Pashtun regions, also emphasized issues such as resettling IDPs, releasing prisoners, free movement across the Durand line, reducing electricity prices, and other important matters.
